The
HIN is a 12-element alphanumeric with the following elements:

Elements 1-3
identify the manufacturer

Elements 4-8
are used by the manufacturer to provide unique identification
for each hull

Elements 9-10
indicate the date of manufacture defined as the time the boat is
completed at the factory
(Element
9 is a
letter from A to L, denoting
the month from January to December )
(Element
10 is the
last digit of the year)

Elements 11-12
indicate the model year ... the two numbers are the last two digits of
the model year
